While there are students who are being injured in the fight for free higher education #FeesMustFall campaign. The South African government is however making decisions that are said to be not legally done.
As the International Relations Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane notified the United Nations about the withdrawal, it is said to have been unlawful and unconstitutional according to the international criminal court’s act. There is no clear purpose of this withdrawal to the International Criminal Court since they are supposedly withdrawing because of the Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.
He was charged with war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity committed in his country.The South African government feels as if no justice is being done since he visited the country despite of the ICC’s warrant of arrest.
The withdrawal is set to be considered next year since it was informally submitted. South Africa is said to be the first country to leave the court formally. There are a lot of issues to be resolved in South Africa especially in the education sector.
South Africa as a country nowadays is failing to keep their affairs properly resolved and in peace. There are disruptions about the issue in parliament but the government failed to resolve the fight for free education up to date. Although the protests have calmed down, it does not mean it is resolved and an agreement has been reached both sides.
